My name is Ian Wilks and I am a director of Queensland Net Pty Ltd, a Brisbane based web development company; our staff have been working online since 1995. My first exposure to the internet was late in 1994 when a business friend, Tony Pinsent from Future Computers, plugged a desktop computer into a 14.4 baud modem in the corner of his office show room. I was flabbergasted at the idea of being able to see information from a computer across the world somewhere in minutes. Unbelievable!
I remember showing business associates and predicting bill boards, buses and taxis with "www" splashed across them! Most people considered the notion impossible and disregarded us as absolute fools!
We originally developed a Queensland based travel portal called SunZine; an "ezine" (electronic magazine) for the Sunshine State.
How things change; and what a difference nearly a decade and a half can make!
